Richard Simmonds, BSc
Richard graduated in 2019 from St Mary’s University, Twickenham, with a first class degree in Sport Science. In particular he specialised in the areas of physiology, biomechanics and psychology. This has allowed Richard to underpin his years of practical coaching experience with solid scientific knowledge, and this further enhances how he is able to improve the performance of those he works with.
Coaching involves a huge number of interacting factors, always particular to each individual. It’s not just about training plans, or race preparation, or position on the bike (important though all of these are!). Coaching is about making you faster on the bike – that’s it. How that happens is due to how effectively the coach manages to integrate all those factors.
Richard’s strength as a coach is taking all that complicated stuff, and distilling it into something simple that the athlete can follow and understand. Most of coaching isn’t rocket science, and making an athlete faster often ends up being something of an art.
